Yanks very much Clint

Fulham’s American midfielder Clint Dempsey was the saviour for Ruining Football in Gameweek 13 after what was a very much below average weekend for the team.

If only I had gone for Jimmy Bullard instead of Geovanni……..

Fantasy football is very much a game of hindsight, and after coming up with the less than original idea to pick a midfielder with a double gameweek, I was left to lament the choice of the wrong one as Bullard scored one, created another, and bagged three bonus points in a vituoso performace on Saturday while Geovanni warmed the bench for 84 minutes.

Thankfully Fulham’s Clint Dempsey was on hand to soothe the pain as he helped himself to a tidy brace on the eve of Thanksgiving Day against Blackburn Rovers. The American is enjoying another impressive season, and is on a serious hot streak right now with five goals in his last five league games. At just 6.6 million he is a must for any team right now, and will hopefully continue the good form at home to a struggling Bolton Wanderers this week.

Speaking of Bolton, both Jussi Jaaskelainen and Gary Cahill have been benched for this one as I fancy them to concede at least once meaning they are both of little use.

Instead, Joe Hart will play in goal. His clean sheet last weekend was another kick in the proverbials. Birmingham don’t leak many goals and Hart gets some good points for saves made so hopefully he can show much of the same away to Wolves.

The back four has a now familiar look to it, while Cesc Fabregas keeps the captain’s armband despite a difficult fixture at home to Chelsea. Arsenal will be looking for three points at the Emirates and if they are to do it then the Spaniard is sure to be in the thick of the action.

Darren Bent has thankfully declared himself fit to play after feears that he had done a hamstring so he takes his spot up front alongside Didier Drogba with Fernando Torres still sidelined.

The mystery surrounding Mark Noble’s absence from the West Ham team will hopefully sort itself out this weekend so he stays in the first eleven.

The total haul of 54 points for Gameweek 13 was by no means a disgrace, but even though there were some star names out injured in the Premiership, a lot of teams scored very highly.

If Hart and Bullard had been in the side then we would have hit the mid 70s but lacklustre performances from the likes of Jaaskelainen, Insua, Cahill and Behrami kept the tally down.

Darren Bent scored again, while Ryan Shawcross proved once again to be a solid asset at the back with a clean sheet and maximium bonus points for Stoke in their win over Portsmouth.

The team currently sits in 31,952nd place out of a total of 2,160,378 teams.
