Weekend Betting Selections

QPR v Sunderland (Sat, 3pm)

A sold out Loftus Road will be rocking on Saturday as the home fans cheer on their team in the hope securing all three points in their bid to salvage their Premier League season. Last week’s win over Southampton, away from home, was a real thriller. I saw a passion from the Harry’s men that I haven’t seen all season, a real desire to succeed. That win means the R’s are just 4 points from safety and there is genuine belief now that they can stay up. Amazing what a win can do for you!

Sunderland saved themselves from four straight defeats in a row last weekend, rescuing a draw having gone 2-0 down at home to Fulham. The Black Cats have certainly been struggling and, while they are capable on their day, I reckon QPR have a lot more about them at present and I will be backing them to take all three points in a game that Harry will see as very winnable.

Newcastle v Stoke (Sun, 3pm)

Newcastle have been in good form lately, picking up three wins from their last five league matches. A strong defensive display away to Anzhi earned Pardew’s men a deserved 0-0 on Thursday evening and things are looking up for the Toon.

Stoke have been struggling to emulate their early season form. They no longer look rock solid at the back and scoring goals has also been a concern for Pulis’ side, with just nine goals scored in eleven matches in 2013.

So, with Newcastle in decent form and Stoke struggling, it might surprise you that I will be backing Stoke on Sunday. Newcastle’s Thursday night exploits combined with a lack of attacking options give me enough reason to expect that Stoke will earn at least a draw. The bet below pays out if the match ends in a draw or if Stoke win.

Reading v Aston Villa (Sat, 3pm)

A relegation treat for the neutral and a nail biting 90 mins for the supporters of both clubs. Villa have the better form but with Reading at home, anything is possible. I won’t be betting on the outcome of this one but I will be backing under 12 corners and here is why. Reading average 4.86 corners per game and Villa average 4.68. There is no reason for me to expect that anything will be different in what I expect to be quite a cagey affair.
