Sunderland hit by Bent blow

Sunderland are waiting on a scan to determine whether or not they will have to do without top scorer Darren Bent for up to three weeks.

The England international picked up the suspected hamstring injury after scoring the winning goal against Arsenal on Saturday.

“If it is his hamstring, we could be looking at three weeks out,” manager Steve Bruce told the club’s official website.

“We won’t know anything more until the results come back so we will have to keep our fingers crossed.”

The Mackems are already without Kenwyne Jones for this weekend’s trip to Wigan after he was sent off against West Ham recently.

Since his move from Tottenham in the summer, Bent has gone through a rich vain of form and has scored nine goals already this season.
