Ruud blow for Real

Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been ruled out for six weeks after injuring himself celebrating his goal in Real Madrid’s 5-0 win over Xerez last weekend.

The 33 year old, who has just come back from nine months out with a knee problem, has damaged a muscle in his left thigh.

“I’m okay, but I got hurt while scoring,” said the veteran. “I dreamed of this return – to score and provide an assist. I am overwhelmed by the fans’ support.

“I worked very hard to return and everything has gone well. Let’s see how my quad is holding up.”

As well as missing the next five La Liga games, Van Nistelrooy will also be absent for the Champions LEague clashes with AC Milan and Marseille.
