AS Roma overtook Inter at the top of Serie A this week, and Moments of Magic looks back at a special goal scored by Francesco Totti when the two sides met in 2005.
#18 Francesco Totti v Internazionale, 2005
Inter have dominated Italian footall in recent times but Roma, led by inspirational captain Francesco Totti, are going about changing that.
Totti has plenty of history with Inter and was the architect behind his side’s 3-2 win at the San Siro in November 2005.
The striker picked up a loose ball inside his own half, shrugged off two tackles and headed directly for goal.
Left one on one with Marco Materazzi, he cut inside and looked set to unleash a thunderbolt of a shot from 25 yards.
Instead he dinked the most beautiful lob over Inter keeper Julio Cesar whose despairing dive was to no avail.
Inter still went on to win the Scudetto at the end of the season, but the magic of the Roma captain was a joy to behold as it has been throughout his illustrious career.
Totti made his debut for Roma way back in the 1992/93 season and has since then remained loyal to the club for whom he has played more than 500 times.
He is also a World Cup winner having been part of the Italian side that was victorious in 2006, and has won 58 caps.
What a player! And it’s great that he won the world cup. So many fantastic itallian players before him never managed it. Roberton Baggio, anyone?
