Midweek Betting Selections

After an excellent start to last weekend’s selections with West Brom winning at 15/8, we were thwarted by Manchester United’s failure to get going in the first half to land our ‘win both halves’ bet. The evening kick off then saw Arsenal draw with Aston Villa in a match where the sight of short sleeves was a collector’s item. The conditions were very poor indeed. We can only learn from our mistakes and it looks as though the current Arsenal side can’t be relied upon to win matches away from home in such unfavourable conditions. Especially at such a short price as 4/6. This midweek sees a full fixture list in the Premier League and there is plenty of value in the betting markets.

Swansea v West Brom

Swansea are unbeaten in their last five matches having successfully held Liverpool and Chelsea in recent weeks. They are looking quite stable now as a team and they have some exciting players. They do lack a real cutting edge though particularly if Michu is not playing at his best.

Such is the form of the Baggies at present that it is difficult to ignore them in the betting markets. I mentioned last weekend that you would have to expect their charge to derail at some stage. But at the same time, I want to board the Albion train while there is still coal in the firebox. They have now won four games in a row and sit 3rd in the table. Confidence is very high in the camp and fans are being treated to expansive, entertaining and quality football.

Verdict: I can’t see West Brom losing this match. A draw would be an acceptable result and there is a very good chance that they will win. With that in mind, it makes sense to cover the draw and bet on Albion to win.

Bet Recommendation: West Brom to win (Draw No Bet) @ 5/4 with Setantabet

Chelsea v Fulham

Rafael Benitez’s first match in charge of the Blues saw them keep their first clean sheet in eight Premier League games. Despite a section of the fans not taking well to his appointment, the players look eager to impress and to cement their place within the team. Parts of Chelsea’s play already looked more assured under their new manager on Sunday and with more improvement likely, they should be dangerous.

Fulham have a very poor away record in London derby matches and their overall away form in the Premier League is the worst amongst those who have played over 100 games. Their recent performances have been poor and they look highly vulnerable at present.

Verdict: An improving Chelsea should have too much quality for a struggling Fulham side with a very poor overall away record.

Tottenham v Liverpool

Liverpool have failed to convince this season and have just 3 wins from their opening 13 games. Suarez’s performances have been nothing short of outstanding. His work rate for the team has been highly admirable. Sterling has been in fine form too, showing what a bright future he has. But beyond these two players, there is little to get excited about for Liverpool fans. The sight of Joe Cole warming up hardly inspired the fans on Sunday and January is going to be a very important transfer window for the Reds.

Tottenham have been equally disappointing this season. They have failed to produce the consistent performances that are required to seriously compete for a top four position. There is far too much reliance on Defoe and Bale with little threat coming from elsewhere unless Lennon has a good game. When you compare that to teams like Chelsea, Man United, Man City and even Arsenal, it is evident that Spurs are too predictable and over reliant on certain players, much like Liverpool. However, the result against West Ham may just be what they needed to kick on and go on a decent run of games. The performance was impressive.

Verdict: I expect Tottenham to win this one and win well. They should have too much attacking threat for Liverpool.
