La Liga Round 27 Review and Video Highlights

In a week that saw yet another twist in the quest for the title, Barcelona went home pointless after going down 1-0 at Valladolid.

Messi and his band of (not so) merry men didn’t have it all their own way as they slumped to their third league defeat in six games.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid took full advantage to go four points clear of the Catalans, but have their cross-city rival, Atlético in hot pursuit, only three points in arrears. Los Blancos were comfortable as they sealed a 3-0 home win over recently impressive Levante, with Marcelo, Ronaldo and a comical own goal from the away side’s Nikos Karabelas.

Athletic Bilbao went a long way to sealing fourth place with a 1-1 draw at the Mestalla against Valencia. Results elsewhere mean that the Basque side are now seven points clear of nearest challengers, Villarreal, for the final Champions League spot.

At the bottom, everything got a little bit more complicated for the mathematicians as all the clubs in the bottom three, recorded victories.

After the 27th round of the league, only four points separate 11th placed Celta Vigo from Rayo Vallencano all the way down in 19th position. It’s hotting up like nothing before.
