Liverpool have been hit with the news that defender Glen Johnson will be sidelined for at least a month after suffering a medial ligament tear in his knee.
The 25 year old previously missed three games with a calf injury and picked up the tear in Monday’s win over Aston Villa.
“Johnson has a problem, so he’ll see a specialist and then we’ll talk but we know he’ll be out for at least one month,” said manager Rafa Benitez.
“But we are waiting for another opinion and then we’ll know how long.”
With Johnson unavailable, Benitez’s options are quite limited with only youngster Martin Kelly, out of favour Philipp Degen, and an out of form Jamie Carragher to choose from.
As a result, Liverpool have this week been linked with Greek full back Vasillis Torosidis who is also attracting interest from Juventus and Athletico Madrid.
