Injury setback for Arteta

Sidelined Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta has suffered a setback as he tries to recover from a serious knee injury.

The Spaniard tore his cruciate ligament in a game against Newcastle United back in Februaryand doctors have now found an infection in the damaged area.

“We have had to wash out the knee,” said manager David Moyes.

“It is a setback but I cannot say for how long.”

The 27 year old former Rangers and Real Sociedad playmaker had hoped to return to training later this month but the comeback will now be delayed, further adding to the club’s injury woes which have blighted the opening months of the season.

The club have yet to decide whether Arteta requires further surgery.
