Huth to sit out next three

Stoke City defender Robert Huth has been hit with a three match ban following his altercation with Matthew Upson in the weekend’s Premiership game against West Ham.

The German international admitted to the charge of violent conduct at a hearing on Tuesday after striking Upson with his arm during the Britannia Stadium encounter.

Stoke must now do without Huth for this weekend’s game against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

“We have spoken to Robert and he knows what we feel,” said Stoke manager Tony Pulis.

“His reaction was poor and it could have cost us the game.

“Upson wasn’t even looking at the ball as he blocked Robert off, but players have to retain their discipline in those situations, whatever the provocation is.”

Huth joined Stoke from relegated Middlesbrough in the summer.
