Deegan set for Championship switch

Football - Blackburn Rovers v Coventry City FA Cup Fifth Round

League of Ireland champions Bohemians have been dealt an off season blow with the news that Gary Deegan is to join Coventry City.

The 22 year old midfielder was instrumental in the Dalymount Park club’s back to back league titles but moves to City on a three and a half year deal commencing January 4.

“We have acquired not only a very good technical footballer but also a very tenacious and hard-working one,” said Coventry boss Chris Coleman.

“He [Deegan] will complement the players we already have here.

“There were a number of other clubs interested in Gary’s services so it was important we moved quickly.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with him when he becomes eligible for us in the New Year.”

Deegan scored five goals in 34 appearances last season for Bohs and was voted onto the 2009 PFAI Team of the Season.
