A walk on the wild side

Despite an excellent gameweek, it’s wildcard time for Ruining Football with the busy Christmas period just around the corner.

Football - Gillingham v Aston Villa FA Cup Third Round

After some less than satisfactory performances lately we finally picked things up in Gameweek 16 to finish with a good total of 74 points, thanks in large part to a superb return from skipper Didier Drogba.

The Ivorian bagged two goals and three bonus points against Everton to lead by example. He was well supported by Ryan Shawcross (10 points), Cesc Fabregas (7) and Joe Hart (7).

Hart kept his fourth clean sheet in five games and is turning out to be one of the fantasy players of the season so far.

The team currently sits in 31,532nd place out of a total of 2,189,482 teams.

The decision to use the wildcard this week was not taken lightly but I felt it was important to get rid of dead wood such as Mark Noble and Jussi Jaaskelainen. Darren Fletcher has been used in defence lately so his potential for decent points has been effectively nullified.

Into the squad come in-form players James Milner, Thomas Sorensen and Lee Bowyer, while Roger Johnson gets the nod as a temporary measure for this gameweek due to a home game against Blackburn Rovers.

Stephen Warnock’s neck injury means his Aston Villa team mate Luke Young comes in as a straight swap, leaving 0.5 million in the bank to play around with.

Didier Drogba continues to hold the captain’s armband for the home game against Portsmouth so hopefully he can find the net again.

With four teams not in action on Tuesday and Wednesday it’s important to get a full eleven out and that was taken into consideration when choosing the squad.

Sorensen, Shawcross, Matthew Etherington and Clint Dempsey make up a solid bench which will come back into selection contention at the weekend.
