What a travesty. Football grew from Western Culture and should be supported by countries that support and have standards that agree with Western Culture. Arab culture does not agree with Western Culture and really is a shame the World Cup would go to a country that totally contradicts core Western principles. This will be a low attending World Cup perhaps. It will only apeal to those who have an Arab like minded nature. What a shame.

So maybe out of sheer embarrassment they'll stop doing that now and considering they have 12 years,
thats 12 years of international media scrutiny.. that ain't no cake walk
Esp. considering how pissed off other nations are right now that they lost and are going to hold the grudge that such a puny country got the vote over them.

They gave the world cup to a country that still uses lashes as a legal, public punishment. They better set up extra lashing posts outside the matches for when the European nations arrive.

Agree with Qatar, i know from experience how crazy people in the middle east are about football, they deserve to have one in that part of the world. If the temperatures are a problem now, when were they not going to be? I'd be very confident that they'll get all their stadiums built etc. The general trend in that region is, if it takes $xxxx million to do something, then so be it. The extra few years they get in finding out now will help aswell. I'd be worried about how they'll handle the fans though, alcohol and other western cultural traits may not be welcomed so much. They'll have to be a lot more allowing in terms of their laws, but I'm wondering just how allowing they can be...?

Russia leaves me very worried though. The prospective stadium locations are a long, long way away from each other and the shackles placed on the media and allegations of police corruption and organised crime are worrying. It doesn't seem the same scenario as South Africa, where there was very little wealth whatsoever, in Russia, the money is there, only some very powerful people control it... along with other things i'd imagine.

Congratulations to both countries.
Right decision from long term perspective, world is opening up and WC needs to go to new places.

I was baffled by many in the media questioning the if Qatar will provide the"atmosphere" , they fail to notice that Football is incredible popular and followed crazily in the middle east.

I guess more reasons why new places should get WC's to close the misinformation thats prevalent in the world.
