I think the top player of the world cup should go to Diego Forlan. I mean, how he carried Uruguay on his back through to the semis is an incredible feat.

They both had their reasons to be regarded, and its hard to compare statistically as one is a defender and one is a forward.

But I understand why you’re supporting Mueller here, he was fantastic.

I was indeed referring to “Young Player of the Tournament”
Yes Muller is included in the team, no prob with having Coentrao as LB as well, he did good even against Spain for periods he was the best player on the pitch for Portugal making 3-4 runs down the flanks.

But Young Player of the Tournament has to be Muller, i just can’t see anyone who has had a bigger impact, performance and statistics wise and younger than 20 (Muller’s age)

Like I mentioned in the article, it was all personal preference. Mueller was fantastic, and I mentioned him – he’s in the full team after all, but Coentrao was absolutely fantastic each game for different reasons.

I don’t think that Varun was doubting the choice of Coentrao, I think he was merely stating he’d had chosen Muller as young player of the tournament instead.

I think Varun’s problem was with him winning young player of the tournament, not being selected in the team.
Salcido also had a good World Cup with Mexico but I agree Coentrao was excellent and better.

Coentrao played four matches and was excellent in every one of them.

Great Choices.

As for match of the tournament, I agree that the Holland Uraguay game was excellent, but there are several others that stick out in my mind for various reasons…

France vs South Africa, Germany vs Argentina, Brazil vs North Korea, England vs Germany, Argentina vs South Korea, USA vs Ghana, Slovakia vs Italy.

The 3rd place play off was also excellent, and Spain vs Chile would have made it onto the list but the game died down after about 60 minutes.
