I disagree, I think Dempsey and Townsend are more than adequate cover for Bale and Lennon. Dempsey scored how many goals last season playing on the left wing and Townsend although raw is as good as the likes of Ince and Sterling only has decent players in front of him, options that Liverpool and Blackpool don't have.
Midfield is 1 area that we don't need desperate cover in. Your point on Bale could be used for for RV, Ronaldo, Mata or any great players so disguarding it.

I don't believe he gives the cover on the wings that you think he does. It would be like when we played Modric or Krankjar on the left drifting in. In that respect, he'd do the same job as wide cover as Sigurdsson has been doing in recent weeks.
He'd give cover to Dembele, and allow us to play 4-3-3 or off the striker, so that in itself is valuable.
But it's not cut an dry, so we'll still flirt with a deal for Moutinho for a bit and go back for Holtby when that is dead.
Levy will also shave £600k off that and get him for £1m, textbook. Then sell 1 of Hudd or Livermore on the last day.
If Dembele was crocked in Feb 1st that £1m would be a steal.
We'd also have better options in the summer market than £25m for Moutinho. Erikssen and Willian could go for half of that, as both will be in last year of their contracts (and younger with sell on).

i totally agree with you. Just pay the money and get him in now. All it takes is an injury to bale or lennon and although we have siggy/falque/townsed to help out i believe that we'll struggle.
