Weekend EPL Betting Tips

Southampton v Liverpool (Sat, 3pm, Setanta 1)

Southampton find themselves firmly on the slide as they welcome an in form Liverpool side who have renewed hope of clinching fourth place. A nervy Saints defence is something that Luis Suarez will relish. The Uruguayan striker seems to enjoy an away challenge – 15 of his 22 Premier League goals this season have been scored away from home. He is so important to Liverpool and I feel that if other players in the team also find a bit of form, which they have, then Liverpool can be a real force. If Pepe Reina returns in time for this clash, then I will be all the more confident about a Reds win, but I will be backing them nevertheless.

Aston Villa v QPR (Sat, 3pm)

This week’s clichéd six-pointer comes from Villa Park. You don’t need me to tell you how much 3 points would mean to either side. But I don’t expect either team to be going all out in search of the win. I would anticipate both managers adopting a cautious approach to the game, with Villa wary of the attacking threat of QPR while realising that a draw would be a good enough result for themselves. For the R’s, they can’t afford to lose and may look to the counter attack for their chances. Looking at the stats, I noticed that both teams have a low corner count this season – 4.55 and 4.62 corners per game on average for Villa and QPR respectively. I expect this one to be low also given the predicted nature of this match and I will be going for under 11 corners.

Wigan v Newcastle (Sun, 4pm, Sky Sports 1)

Last week I wrongly predicted that Newcastle would at least be held by Stoke after a long trip to Russia and a shortage of attacking options. Well, I haven’t learnt my lesson and here I am again opposing Alan Pardew’s men. I feel that after another tie on Thursday night in the Europa League and with Cabaye an injury doubt for this game, Newcastle will be vulnerable. Wigan have quite a decent record against teams in the bottom half of the table this season (W5, D4, L4) and they are a nice price to grab all three points on Sunday.
