Villa’s nightmare season to continue

Aston Villa are looking extremely poor at present. The chance of reaching a cup final and brightening the season for their fans was blown after a 3-1 defeat to League 2 side Bradford on Tuesday. Confidence appears to be very low in the Villa camp and with the lack of experience in the squad, you would have to worry for the Villans as they enter the stage of the season when pressure begins to tell. They are underpriced in this fixture against a Southampton side who look to have a lot more going for them having gone three league games unbeaten, scoring five goals in the process. I will be backing Nigel Adkins’ men for all three points in this one.

Chelsea to pounce on shaky Stoke

All has not been as it should at Stoke in recent weeks. After scoring a rare three goals against Liverpool, Tony Pulis’ side went on to concede three goals in each of their following two games. The overall defence hasn’t looked as strong as it has in the past, with notable gaps opening up between midfield and the back line, leaving plenty of space for teams with attacking talent. Chelsea look likely to exploit any such weaknesses as this kind of space is exactly what the likes of Juan Mata and Eden Hazard look for. Even if Stoke do tighten up, there is plenty to like about the Blues at present and at odds just short of even money, it makes them my value bet of the weekend.

Goals galore at the DW

There have been three or more goals in 81% and 71% of Fulham and Wigan games respectively this season and Over 2.5 goals looks likely again as the two teams prepare to face each other. In fact, this bet would have paid out on five out of the last six Fulham league games and on six out of seven of Wigan’s. It is one of those games that should be enjoyable for the neutral and with only three goals needed to land our bet, it doesn’t matter who wins as long as there are goals!
