Tottenham v Wigan

(Live on Setanta Ireland, Sat 3pm)

Setanta Ireland will be at White Hart Lane this Saturday for a match which should prove to be an entertaining contest. Both teams like to play an attacking passing game which utilises the width of the pitch and both will be looking to take all 3 points. But so far this philosophy has  paid far greater dividends for Tottenham than Wigan who sit 4th and 15th in the table respectively.

Spurs have scored 6 goals more than the Latics and conceded 3 fewer this season, demonstrating the differences in quality between the two sides. Interestingly, both teams have had 67% of their shots on target this season. The difference has been that Spurs have managed an average of 17 shots per game compared to 12 for the Latics. In addition, Villas-Boas’ men have only allowed an average of 9 shots per game at their goal, whilst Martinez’s side have allowed 14.

Verdict: I am not one to dismiss Wigan lightly and I would  give them a chance against most opposition. However, this is the type of fixture that the Tottenham side will relish. It is a game that will allow them to utilise all of their strengths and it is impossible for me to look beyond a convincing and entertaining Spurs victory. You might want to consider backing Gareth Bale to score at any point in the game at odds of 6/4. If you think Spurs will have this wrapped up by half-time, then consider backing this result at a price of Evens.

Bet Recommendation: Back Tottenham to win @ 1/2 (1.50) with Setantabet.com

Fulham v Everton

Craven Cottage has been somewhat of a fortress this season. Only Man City have managed to score there, meaning Fulham have scored 10 and conceded only 2 goals at home this term. Everton go into this match as favourites sitting in 5th position in the table having impressed many this season. Fellaini has been a massive threat for them and almost impossible to handle in aerial situations. But I have found their away form to be unconvincing. I watched them closely against QPR in a match that finished 1-1 and found that they lacked creativity and penetration not for the first time this season, having also slipped up against  Wigan and Leeds.

Verdict: I am convinced that Everton are false favourites in this one. They have not shown the quality away from home that is required to seriously trouble the Fulham defence. The Cottagers on the other hand have plenty of attacking zest about them and Berbatov has been an excellent signing. If you agree, you might consider backing Fulham to win at odds of 7/4. If you think they will win and keep another clean sheet, you can get a price of 4/1. If you are in a cautious mood, as I am and you are worried about the possibility of a draw, then the Draw No Bet option will return your stake should this be the case.

Bet Recommendation: Back Fulham to win (Draw No Bet) @ 5/6 (1.83) with Setantabet.com

West Brom v Southampton

Nigel Adkins is the man who delivered back-to-back promotions for Southampton but he now finds himself as the firm favourite in the Premier League sack race. Indeed, the Saints have been mightily poor this season, find themselves second from bottom in the table and have conceded 26 goals in the league so far this season, more than any other team.

West Brom can count themselves unlucky for their last two defeats and the reality is that they are playing well. The Baggies strength lies in their attack and given an opportunity to play against a poor defence they can really turn on the style.

Verdict: I can’t look beyond West Brom in this one. They will be going all out for the win and they should be too hot to handle for Adkins’ men. Shane Long is a major doubt so that should pave the way for Romelu Lukaku. You can back him to score at anytime in the match at a price of 6/5. If you think West Brom will win this match by at least two goals, you can get an attractive price of 5/1 in the handicap (-1) market.

Bet Recommendation: West Brom to win @ 4/6 (1.67) with Setantabet.com
