Weekend Betting Selections

After mixed fortunes for Premier League teams in Europe this week, we can look forward to some great games this weekend and in particular a Super Sunday that is actually Super. How will City respond to their European woes? Can Arsenal bounce back in style? Will United concede 2 goals again and still win? These are all questions that have to be answered and we will let the football do the talking. But if you want more than just talk and would like to win some money this weekend too, then here are your best bets for the weekend.

Everton v Liverpool

Liverpool fielded a strong side against Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday night which came as a surprise to many. The Reds passed the ball very well and there are clear signs that Rodgers’ philosophy is beginning to take shape. They have also kept a clean sheet in their last 3 matches.  Luis Suarez, the club’s one and only fit striker had a rough ride, notably going down like a ton of bricks at one point as a result of a Chris Samba challenge. The Uruguayan  looked a frustrated figure despite his team playing well and you would have to wonder if all of this weight on his shoulders is beginning to take its toll. There is no doubt that despite Liverpool’s improvement, scoring goals remains a big concern for them.

Everton go into this match sitting 4th in the table and unbeaten in 7 of their last 8 Premier League matches. They are extremely tough to beat and especially so at Goodison. Fellaini looks likely to have recovered in time but Pienaar  is suspended. The Toffees are well rested and they will have belief that they can earn the 3 points. I have been impressed by them this season. Moyes has them playing really well as a team, working hard for each other and the understanding amongst the players is notable.

Verdict: Brendan Rodgers took a big risk on Thursday by fielding his best players. This will play a significant role in the outcome of this match and Everton should be too strong mentally and physically for them. The controversy surrounding Luis Suarez means that he is unlikely to get an easy decision.

Bet Recommendation: Back Everton to win @ 13/8 (2.62) with Setantabet.com

Aston Villa v Norwich

Aston Villa are sweating on the availability of centre-backs Baker and Clark as their defensive problems mount.  Villa have lost 3 of their last 4 league games and have only won once in 18 league games. Confidence at the club is suffering badly with the Villans sitting 17th in the table. There is a severe shortage of supply to Darren Bent who looks a frustrated figure.

Norwich recorded an impressive victory over Arsenal last week and that will serve as an excellent confidence booster for the Canaries. They have no major injury concerns and it is only a matter of time before Chris Hughton makes his mark on this team.

Verdict: To be honest, these two teams appear to be fairly evenly matched. Both teams are distinctively average by Premier League standards and both are capable of beating each other. But the value lies in opposing Villa who are under far more pressure than Norwich, who may record back to back victories here and are a very good price to do so. You can protect your stake from the draw and still get a great price on Norwich to win.

Bet Recommendation: Back Norwich (Draw no Bet) at 7/4 (2.75) with Setantabet.com

Live: Arsenal v QPR (Live on Setanta Ireland, Sat, 3pm)

Arsenal will be looking to bounce back in style against a really poor QPR side. They normally do and you can expect them to come out of the blocks fast in this one. The gunners will be looking to make a point and they should be backed to win Half-Time/Full-Time @ 4/5 (1.80) with Setantabet.com
