Villa agree Delph move

It has been confirmed that Aston Villa have won the race to sign highly-rated young England U-21 star Fabian Delph from Leeds United, after both clubs released statements on their club websites.

Football - Leeds United v Northampton Town FA Cup First RoundThe 19-year-old is expected to undergo a medical at Villa Park before signing for a fee believed to be around £6million.

Villa faced competition from Manchester City and Tottenham to sign Delph, who made 53 appearances for Leeds and has appeared for England at U-19 and U-21 level.

The agreement was revealed on Aston Villa’s official website earlier this evening,

Aston Villa can confirm that a fee has been agreed with Leeds United for Fabian Delph.

Aston Villa has been given permission to speak with the player and further updates will be announced on as appropriate.

While Leeds also released a statement,

The club has resisted approaches from other FA Premier League clubs since agreeing terms with Aston Villa.

Having given Villa our commitment to transfer the player (subject to medical), we had no intention of going back
