Video: RTE montage pays tribute to the great John Giles

For more than 30 years, John Giles was an Irish television staple as he provided football insight on RTE to an audience that stretched across the nation.

A brilliant player for Leeds United and the Republic of Ireland, Giles used his knowledge of the game to educate and inform viewers for eight World Cups and European Championships.

Alongside iconic presenter Bill O’Herlihy and sidekicks Eamon Dunphy and Liam Brady, Giles brought insight and humour to a couple of generations of football fans and he will be sorely missed.

You can tell by his face that he’s a bit of a head banger.

At the ripe old age of 75, Giles hasn’t officially retired and we will no doubt hear his opinions through various other channels in the future.
