Video: Messi blazes over as Chile win Copa America Centenario

Lionel Messi hammered a spot kick over the crossbar as Chile claimed the Copa America Centenario with a penalty shoot out win over Argentina.

The game finished 0-0 after 120 minutes of action, and a player from each side was sent off in what was fiery first half of normal time.

Gonzalo Higuain had the best chance to win the game for Argentina but shot wide when played through on goal, while Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo produced a stunning save to keep out a Sergio Aguero header.

Chile’s Arturo Vidal stepped up first in the shoot out and saw his penalty saved by Sergio Romero, before Messi found the crowd in the stand with his effort.

Both sides were perfect after that until Bravo saved from Lucas Biglia, and Francisco Silva converted the winner.

Argentina have now lost three major finals in a row – the 2014 World Cup, last year’s Copa America, and this year’s Copa America Centenario.

After the game, Messi told reporters that he will no longer play for the national team after this latest disappointment.
