Tottenham closing in on Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham are in advanced talks with Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino, according to reports.

According to PA, Pochettino has held advanced negotiations over signing a four-year contract with Spurs, while chairman Daniel Levy is trying to agree a compensation figure with Southampton.

The Argentine has been an impressive figure since taking the helm at Southampton, with two top half finishes in succession. Tottenham have a void to fill after caretaker Tim Sherwood was relieved of his duties, despite a decent record and support from the dressing room.

Previous manager Andre Villas Boas has since gone on to join Zenit St Petersburg.

Southampton seemed determined to hold onto Pochettino and there were reports that a new contract was being prepared. If Pochettino leaves, there’s likely to be a mass exodus from St Mary’s with Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw also on their way out of the club.
