This time last year we compiled a list of the best players of 2010 – so we’re doing it again. It was a fantastic community effort, with some of the finest bloggers in the game, football fans and a handful of journalists all coming together to put together the final list by voting for who they thought were the best players of the 2010 calender year. Lionel Messi was voted the number one player of the year, followed by his Barcelona teammate Xavi and Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder.
We want as many people as possible to contribute, so we’re inviting football fans and readers of Back Page Football to submit their list of the top 25 players of 2011. We’ve put together a longlist to select from, and the results will be calculated into a list of 50 before its unveiling in a couple of weeks.
View the longlist and submit your Top 25 here >>
The purpose of this is to compile the best players of the 2011 calender year, so take into consideration the second half of last season and the first half of this season. So if you think a player like Samir Nasri had a great 2010/11 season, it’s important to note that his better games came in 2010. Don’t forget about international form as well: the Copa America took place during the summer, while a large chunk of the Euro 2012 qualifiers took place in 2011.
Once we end submissions the results will be calculated and the top 50 players of 2011, as voted by you, will appear here on the blog. We’d really appreciate your involvement, and if you’d like to contribute to the write-ups then mention so in your submission.
