Iniesta is a class act and yet so humble. As a United fan, it was painful to watch Iniesta and his partner in crime - Xavi, destroy United in 2009 Champions League Final.

Iniesta was the engine and the orchastrator of a pretty brutal victory. It was like men against boys, which doesn't happen very often for United.

Suprised that Fabregas isn't in at least the top 50, although definetely doesn't deserve top 5, considering the likes of, Xavi, Messi and Sneijder haven't been listed.

For 2010 van Bommel rightly deserves to be on the list.

There are a few others however who probably didn't deserve to be there.

Was Nani even on the list so far? His 2010 period was quite incredible.

I'm going take a wild and flailing leap into the crazy realm of hunchdom and say that Messi, Xavi and Sneijder will take #1, #2 and #3.

I'm quite surprised that Fàbregas didn't make a dent in the top 50. You talk about how true football aficionados prize "cultured midfielders... manipulator[s] of space" -- surely Fàbregas should have displaced at least van Bommel?

iniesta is the zidane of this recent period except for the temper...floating around, creating space, passing, very very very good at everything but not the best in the world at any one thing, scoring crucial goals, low key off the field, balding, pale but still handsome...it might seem contradictory to say considering the praise he is receiving but i think we will really appreciate him and realize how great he truly was when all is done, the dust settles and he retires. there have been very few people with the skill, the humility and knowledge of the game that iniesta possesses

I first noticed Iniesta in 2006. He's always been my favourite Barcelona player because, as you correctly point out, he often provides the spark in Barcelona's (famously world-class) final third.

He reminds me of Paul Scholes. People are going to slate me for this, but I feel that Scholes remains the more naturally talented footballer (in the past, certainly not the present).

Iniesta, as with many of the players in that team, benefit from being in a team bursting with the world's best players.
