I really thought Sneijder was the perfect Mourinho player, because he is an unusual mix of creativity and total tactical discipline. In the system Inter played to win the CL, it required a very very patient approach, with perhaps one or two moments appearing in a match when a flash of quality would secure victory and Sneijder excelled at this, whether scoring or supplying a final ball.

Snejder is a very good player. But I think inter will loose against bayern munich.

Yesterday, I’d predicted (perhaps not so much a prediction as pointing out the obvious) Sneijder, Xavi, Messi for #3, #2 and #1. But I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that Xavi will get the nod over Messi: he achieved more in 2010 and it’s just contrarian enough to keep the list interesting (see also the sirloin vs rump-steak hypothesis).

Yes, the top 20 in particular is excellent.

The omission of the most creative and tempo-setting midfielder in the most intense league in the world is still an eyebrow-raiser, but understandable since the list privileges achievement over the course of the year as much as pure ability and influence.

Sadly I have never taken real interest in Wesley Sneijder but yet I’ve always heard great things about him. He’s had an amazing year with Inter and with Holland at the World Cup.

With only two players yet to be named in the top 50 feature and two highly regarded Barca players still to be pulled from the hat, I imagine I can predict which two geniuses will complete this list.

It’s a well compiled list. Bravo to those involved.
