The Bookies ‘Specials’ and Midweek Tips

You’ll find a vast array of special offers and promotions from the different bookmakers these days. Most of these ‘specials’ don’t represent good value for money to the average punter and are often designed to promote a bookmaker’s market where they achieve a higher than average profit margin. Examples are first goalscorer and correct score bets, trebles and accumulators. The reality is that you are highly unlikely to make a long term profit from these markets and so unless you use them anyway, it’s probably best to ignore such promotions.

However, some offers are in fact worth a second look and I will use this blog to highlight them for you when they do arise. So let’s take a look at the best offer for this week.’s 88th minute special

This offer will refund your stake in the form of a free bet if a goal is scored from 87.01 minutes onwards that results in you losing your bet. The great thing about this offer is that it applies to the straightforward win market, so you don’t need to place any fancy bets to avail of it. I like this one because, as we all know, late goals are very common and can be hard to take if you are on the losing end, so it gives that little bit of insurance.

It’s imperative that you always get the best available price on a bet that you place. Odds vary between the various bookmakers and every decimal matters in the long run, if you are serious about betting and expect to make a long term profit. Every serious punter knows that loyalty to a certain bookie is not an option. You need to choose your bookie based on price alone. Luckily, Oddschecker can make it easy for you; it’s a brilliant price comparison site that compares odds from the majority of the most well-known and trusted bookmaker’s.

We move on to the midweek fixtures in the Premier League where sniffing out the value is the aim of the Bet Adviser. Let’s take a look at what I have come up with this week.

QPR and City to deliver the goals

QPR find themselves bottom of the table, five points from safety with just 15 games to play. They are in a position where setting out your stall in the hope that you might achieve a point is not an option. Rather, Harry Redknapp’s men must go out and fight for 3 points in every match. They have to play without fear, with a belief that they are good enough to remain in the top flight. Men will be separated from boys, hiders will be sought out and the test of one’s character will be on show to the public gallery for 90 minutes at a time around once a week between now and the end of the season, when the final verdict will be delivered.

City are their next opponents. They have won their last four league games on the bounce, scoring 11 goals. They have an ambition too; to catch their bitter rivals Man United before it’s too late. Sure there is no need to panic, but just like their opponents, 3 points is a must as far as they’re concerned.

So that leaves us set up nicely for an open game of football. The onus will be on the Hoops to attack, leaving lots of space for City to mount dangerous counter attacks. And you wouldn’t bet against QPR scoring either. It’s just so hard to see them not concede more than they will score. I will be looking for 3 or more goals to be scored in this game and I’m confident that it will happen too.

Stoke tough but not rock solid

Stoke welcome Wigan. As I have outlined in previous weeks, Stoke’s defence of late hasn’t been what we have come to expect from Tony Pulis’ men. They have leaked goals at an alarming rate – 13 in their last four league games. Wigan have been poor too, going 10 league games with just one win. They concede a lot of goals you can be assured that they will always give it a good go with the result being that they usually score at least and they have notched 11 goals during that poor run mentioned.

So where does all of this leave us? Well, it tells me that there is a really strong chance that both teams will score in this match. Wigan look vulnerable to Stoke’s style of attack and the Latics look well capable of scoring against a suspect defence. They are sure to give it a good go anyway rather than sitting back to defend. My money will be going on both teams scoring; it doesn’t make a difference to my bet on what the outcome of the match is.
