Thanks for your comments Conor and taking the time to read my blog.

You reference that Demba Ba mishit and therefore it does not count as an attempt on goal. Anyway, the point i was making was that it was possibly a deliberate attempt to test Lindegaard.

You also definitely played a lot deeper in the second half. There was a period of play when Man Utd dominated possession and your defence sat on the 18 yard line. Please don’t confuse me saying ‘you played deep’ with ‘you played negative’

Best replaced Ameobi to provide fresh legs and don’t forget, Obertan came on for a striker! Hardly an attacking move?

Overall i was very impressed with your side though. Coloccini I thought was outstanding, Tiote and Cabaye are efficient in midfield, Guttierez’s work rate continues to impress and Ba is in a fine run of form!

I’m a Newcastle fan and was at the match tonight. Although I agree with most of your write-up, somethings are definitely not correct. Firstly, you say in the ‘early exchanges’ paragraph that all our attempts in the first 20 minutes came from outside the box, which is incorrect, as you previously mentioned, Simpson crossed for Ba very early on which Ba mishit from about 12 yards. I also disagree with Pardew’s ‘attempt to sit deep and hold on’. Admittedly we did bring on Perch in the holding role, but we also put on Both Leon Best and Gabriel Obertan, (a striker and a winger) which can hardly be classed as defensive changes. Other than that, an excellent blog and nice to see us getting some of the credit we deserve from what is so far, a great, and unexpected season from us. Howay the lads
