Good player, better all-round player than he gets credit for. £12m is a lot but when you consider Crouch cost Stoke a similar fee last season he could be well worth the fee.

As a Sunderland fan I found this a very balanced and well written article. SAFC need a striker, number one priority! and o’Neil wants a strong, dedicated player who has expirience of the premier league so Fletcher certainly fits. With his physical presence and heading ability upfront, supported with crosses from larrson, sessegnon and mcclean I think he could work very well within our squad.
The price? Money rules all in football nowadays and to take the best player from any team you will have to pay. 10-12mil is a lot of money yet Fletcher is a proven player capable of creating chances and scoring goals (watch is 2nd goal against us at home last season). 15mil would be overpriced but selling clubs often try to rinse a transfer for everything they can if they think the potential buyers have enough money. Overall I think he will be a good investment for the club and I hope to see him wearing red and white soon.

A certain Kevin Phillips will prove this – i remember certain fans shouting £600-800k for a striker, he’ll be crap – bang, one of our top players then on the other hand £9m for Flo who done jack all.

If a chairman wants to spend money on a player then its his money – at least they are trying to improve than stand still like we did under Murray.

Steven Fletcher scored the most headed goals in the Premier League last season as well as scoring at Old Trafford, White Hart Lane, the Emirates and Anfield last season.

As you say, it doesn’t matter what the morons on Twitter believe he is worth but what Wolves and Sunderland do. I really do hope that he stays at Molineux for another season because if he does I think he will be the difference between promotion and another season in the Premier League.
