On the field, captain Brad Evans and striker Eddie Johnson got the goals for the Sounders but a bizarre lapse in concentration from goalkeeper Michael Gspurning when the lead was just 1-0 made saw the Austrian sent off with 85 minutes gone.

Former Wolves and Reading man Marcus Hahnemann took over between the sticks and he will no doubt deputise in Gspurning’s absence when the Sounders face arch rivals the Portland Timbers in the two legged semi final.
