while Messi have Cristiano Ronaldo for comparision all the time so after reaching the top Messi’s throne is not secured …whereas at the time of Ronaldinho he had no one who could match his abilities on the field … so after winning the champions league 2006 he became an undisputed best player of the world(even some experts regarded him as an all time best)…with no rival…no critic…and admired by all…loved by all…even rival Real Madrid fans…that’s enough for complacency to creep in and the world lost such a treasure of talent.

I think the culprit, like many footballing stars is his family.

If you see a family that is strong behind the player, backing him up, disallowing the nightlife, etc the player will be a solid star both on and off the court.

Look no further than “strong” family ties that Messi, Kaka and hell, even Nadal (tennis) has and compare them with the likes of Ronaldinho, Adriano, etc.

A strong family will give you the discipline and teachings of life in order to succeed in life.

His brother and mother are ultimately a bad influence to him.

Shame though. I think he will be without money in 10-20 years from now.

This was an enjoyable read. It was put together really well.

I might add that not everyone is motivated to be the best ever and after winning all there is to win in football and being wealthy enough to be able to afford 3 aeroplanes it is not hard to see why his motivation waned.

He was the player I began watching more closely than any other after the 2002 World Cup and let me tell you, watching him in those 3 years was nothing short of absolute ecstasy. He was an entertainer and it was hard to take your eyes off him when he was on the ball. I have come to see the footballers such as Messi and C. Ronaldo being more consistent at being effective but they are almost robotic in how they perform. Ronaldinho was an artist of the highest order and I think he will be more than a footnote in football’s elite pantheon when all is said an done. When the question is asked, who were the best footballers around from the 2000 – 2010 decade? – Ronaldinho won’t be far from most lips.
