England winger Andros Townsend is a wanted man following Newcastle United’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
The 24-year-old, who missed out on a place at the European Championships in the final squad cut, is believed to be on the radar of Liverpool and Manchester City.
Townsend has a £10.5 million release clause in his contract which has attracted attention from other clubs, including West Ham United and Crystal Palace.
Townsend would represent good value for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp wants to bring in more pace to his attack at Anfield.
Rather like with City, if Liverpool cannot get one of their bigger more expensive targets then they will look towards Townsend.
Despite the Magpies’ season culminating in a drop to the Championships, Townsend was a standout performer for Rafa Benitez’s side, and he is very much a required player at St. James’ Park.
Townsend began his professional career at Tottenham Hotspur and has 11 England caps to his name to date.
