Manchester City look set to bolster their back line by signing England centre back John Stones from Everton, according to the Daily Mail.
The 22-year-old is highly rated, in large part due to his ball playing abilities, and wants to stay in the Premier League to work with Pep Guardiola.
La Liga giants Barcelona were interested in Stones, and even met with his agent in Spain last week to discuss a move abroad.
Barcelona met the Everton defender’s agent Paul Martin last week, offering £90,000 a week plus bonuses for trophies won, but the offer was rejected.
Barca have been following Stones since 2014 and were not put off by his drop in form last season but they have a crippling wage bill weighed down by the huge salaries of Neymar and Lionel Messi.
Stones has ten England caps to his name so far and could be a starter for Roy Hodgson alongside Chris Smalling at the heart of the defence during EURO 2016.
City are understandably keen to add another centre back to their ranks with huge question marks over the durability of skipper Vincent Kompany and the form of both Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi, while Martin Demichelis is expected to return home to Argentina this summer.
