Potential stars of Brazil 2014

With the World Cup just under two years away I thought I’d take a look a some players that could be everybody’s lips by the end of the tournament.

After joining Chelsea from Internacional for 25m in the summer, Oscar has made a positive impact on a Chelsea side now with a very much attacking ideology. The young midfielder has cemented his place in Mano Menzes side and he has answered well, performing well in the olympic games and in recent friendlies. He is certainly a player to watch for the hosts, in a side capable of matching that of the 1970 team.

Mario Gotze

On the fringes of the Eur0 2012 squad, Mario Gotze’s time to shine will surely be at the World Cup in Brazil. The young midfielder is a key playmaker in a Dortmund side, that is arguably one of the top ten teams in European club football. His direct style and small stature make for a nightmare for defenders, it does also mean he brings excitment to the table.

Jackson Martinez

He may not be the most talked about Colombian striker in the world, but he’s certainly turning some heads in Portugal. Signed from Jaguares this summer to replace the goals of Hulk, Martinez has certainly found his feet in Portugal with six goals in six making him a formidable forward. I expect to see him make an impact in Brazil in a Colombian side capable of winning the trophy.

Souleymane Coulibaly

Still only 17 it may be bold saying he’ll be one to watch out for, but after scoring seven at the Under 17 world cup in 2011, he made it clear he could do it in future World Cup’s. The potential I see in him, I could see him being close to breaking into the Spurs side. With Drogba surely out of the way by 2014, he could seize his chance if he has an influential 2013-14 season.

Here’s a video of Coulibaly at his best

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

Already well known in England, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has the capability to be to Brazil 2014, to what Michael Owen was to France 98′. The young English winger made his name at Southampton and since earned a move to Arsenal. His performances impressed many, with a game against Manchester United particularly worthy of noting. His performances did not go under the radar of Roy Hodgson and he became a key part of his Euro 2012 squad, now he is a true England international and with the talent at the fingertips of Hodgson he has the chance to be part of another golden generation in English football.

  1. Interesting comments about Oxlade-Chamberlain. Had a decent spell in the middle of last season but personally i think he’s gone backwards and he needs to prove himself again. Maybe too much expected of him so soon and he didn’t get a summer’s rest under his belt. Don’t think anyone knows his best position yet either.

  2. Goetze played real good in the Champions League against Madrid this week. Other great player could be Ajax’s Danish start Christian Eriksen and Belgium has a lot of great young talent at the moment like Hazard and Lukaku. After their terrible Euro campaign the Dutch should bring some talented youth into their starting XI, like Luuk and Siem de Jong.
