Poll: Was Willian’s tackle on Walcott a penalty?

by Up Front

This tackle in the box in the first half of Arsenal’s scoreless draw with Chelsea split fans, neutrals and pundits everywhere.

Walcott seemed to be on the way down before Willian caught his leg, but there was definitely a drag back by the Brazilian and the English attackers stumbled to the ground. Mike Dean had an off night and seemed to lose the game as the second half wore on, with scuffles and head-to-heads kicking off between the Chelsea and Arsenal players.

Dean arguably should have sent Jon Obi Mikel off for a tackle on Mikel Arteta but was clearly in a ‘let them play’ state of mind.

Was it a penalty?

  • Yes, definitely! (58%, 189 Votes)
  • No, referee was right. (42%, 135 Votes)

the highest Dean can give to mikel tackle is yellow card, i dnt knw why arsenal are crying 4 red. according to the rule, stud with a single leg is yellow and red with both legs. as for the penalty calls, it was 50-50, and walcot was going down already
