European action in midweek has had a knock on effect in terms of this weekends fixture list with five games on Saturday and five more on Sunday. Below we take a look into some of the more interesting games this weekend as many fans' attention turns back to the league following FA Cup and European distractions....

Taking a hit

Injuries and suspensions have left Ruining Football short six players for this gameweek, forcing the gaffer to bite the bullet and take a points hit. Nani you clown. I knew I shouldn't have shown any faith in him. His red card against Aston Villa and subsequent three game suspension has hurt us bad. Carlos Tevez is still back in Argentina on compassionate leave while Abou Diaby, Andy Reid, Matthew Etherington and Gary Cahill are all injured. Armand Traore is no longer in Arsene Wenger's plans so really there are seven players who won't ...

Off The Cuff

BackPageFootball contributor Ed Diggins is back with a new regular column. Off The Cuff will look at the burning issues of the game and invites readers to contribute their thoughts and views. Enjoy! Football's Underworld. So, John Terry is public enemy number one for the past few weeks. I am not surprised, though in all fairness, can anybody say that they liked him in the first place or expected better from him? All over England, players and staff are sh*tting themselves right now after the new privacy laws introduced in the past two weeks. ...

Serie A – Week 24 Review

Chris Mann is back to give BackPageFootball the lowdown on the latest round of Serie A matches as leaders Inter stumble against Napoli. Have things just got interesting again on the peninsula? With Napoli holding Inter to a draw and Milan, Roma and Juventus all registering important wins, a small dent has was made in the Nerazzurri’s sizeable lead at the top of Serie A. Is this the start of an Inter slump? Neutrals across Italy will certainly be hoping so. No, your eyes did not deceive a few moments ago, Internazionale ...

BPF's resident Manchester Utd fan Ed Diggins returns this week with an intruiging personal diary into the double League Cup clash between his team and bitter rivals Manchester City, after the season-ticket holder blagged tickets for the Cup semis. Carling Cup Semi 1st Leg, Manchester City (A) 2-1 Manchester Utd A Text message buzzes in to my phone, “I’ve a ticket for you in the away end tomorrow night” it reads. Get f*cking in, how sweet is that?! The inclement weather last week meant that both the away and home ties had ...

http://sports.insidepulse.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/uefa_champions_league_420.jpg

The Champions League makes a welcome return this week following its mid-winter break. With the frequent boredom and (relative) predictability  of the group stages out of the way, fans can look forward to some truly mouth-watering fixtures now that the real deal of the knockout rounds is upon us. The draw for the round has provided some mouth watering clashes, none more so than those of the top two in the Premier League. The first round of games sees Manchester United travel to the San Siro to take on AC Milan while just over a week later, Chelsea ...

What if? Irish Eyes Look To WC2010….

Robbie Keane of Ireland celebrates scoring the opening goal during the France v Republic of Ireland FIFA 2010 World Cup Qualifying Play Off second leg match at the Stade de France on November 18, 2009 in Paris, France.

Its seems a lifetime since the Irish national team’s chances of qualification were so cruelly snatched away and I still haven’t recovered from the indescribable disappointment of it all. I’ve decided to take a step back from the harsh reality of the truth for a while and assess how our boys in green would be fixed if that moment never happened and Gio’s men somehow managed to squeeze their way through…..whether this will help ease the pain or not, I’m really not sure. Although somehow I doubt it....
