The first batch of this years Champions League quarter finalists gets decided tonight as Europe's premier club competition continues. Arsenal must look to overturn a 2-1 deficit against Porto, while Fiorentina face a similar task as they welcome Bayern Munich to the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Below, we take a closer look at these ties....... Arsenal vs FC Porto (agg 1:2) A few weeks ago it seemed that European success may be the main priority for the remainder of Arsenal's season following their  tame elimination from the FA cup and their ...

Moments of Magic #16

As Newcastle United continue to lead the way in the Championship,  Moments of Magic relives one of the best goals of the club's recent history. #16 Philippe Albert v Manchester United, 1996 Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United have rarely been on the receiving end of a real hammering during the Scot's reign, however they were well and truly played off the park when they visited Newcastle United in a top of the table clash during the 1996/97 season. United had just pipped Newcastle to the title in May after Kevin Keegan's men had blown a 12 ...

Opinion: Can a fans’ trust work?

In a long overdue return to BPF, Gav Reilly ponders whether the Red Knights model of ownership can really work in England...

Premier League Preview

Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal celebrates with Samir Nasri and Mikael Silvestre after scoring the opening goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Burnley and Arsenal at Turf Moor on December 16, 2009 in Burnley, England.

The FA Cup returns this weekend and has the knock on effect of playing havoc with the Premier League schedule. Only four games are on offer over the course of Saturday and Sunday, however the good news for football fans is that the action carries on into Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as the backlog of fixtures gets cleared somewhat....

Selection headache

A difficult week ahead once again for Fantasy Football managers with a number of teams not in action. Ruining Football has managed to field an eleven on paper, but whether they will all play is a different matter altogether. Manchester City, Tottenham, Fulham, Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers all have the weekend off, again forcing managers to do more wheeling and dealing than Harry Redknapp during a transfer window. Bolton and Burnley do place twice but that's of no use to me seeing as there is a combined total ...

“And replacing number 121….”

When Australia took on Indonesia in an Asian qualifier this week, youngster Tommy Oar made quite the impression with an outstanding debut performance. However, it was his shirt that was just as big a talking point amongst the game's purists. The days of teams stepping out in numbers 1 to 11 look to be truly gone as the modern game now seemingly requires shirt numbers that are in triple figures. Tommy Oar's number 121 shirt, simply put, looked ridiulous, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) are to blame, according to Simon ...

Mock The Weak #2

http://www.odt.co.nz/files/story/2009/04/arsenal_s_goalkeeper_lukasz_fabianski_centre_right_1672423340.jpg

The past two midweeks have seen the return of European football to our screens. Over the course of these matches we’ve seen some fantastic games, goals, shots, passes, tackles, misdirection (if you’re Paul Scholes) or in the case of Arsenal, some really terrible efforts in the art of stopping the opposition from scoring. In the first week, the main event of Tuesday’s billing was AC Milan hosting Manchester United at the San Siro. Obviously this was a very important fixture but more importantly, if Sky Sports News is to be believed, David Beckham ...

United They Stand

It sounds like a missing scene from the Da Vinci Code. On Monday night, reports leaked to the press that a group known as “The Red Knights” had assembled themselves for a secret meeting, presumably held in an underground lair by candlelight, to discuss their plans to wrestle control of Manchester United from the evil forces known as “The Glazers”. The group is a veritable who’s who of  legal and financial powerhouses, with representatives of some of the world’s most influential organizations holding exclusive membership. Despite the early stages at which their epic quest lies, their intentions must ...
