As much as I will miss them nightly, this whole situation has become way overblown. One of my favourite websites, TheScore/The Journal, become a complete propaganda machine for about 3 days.
Look, the show Off The Ball was there before the 5 lads and it has continued on bravely and elegantly for 3 nights now since with one of the shows original broadcasters, Ger Gilroy, stepping back into the hot seat. All we need now are free wagon wheel pizzas back and were set!
Recently I thought the show was getting a bit crude and elementary at times with silly jingles and thunping techno celebrations, although Richie Sadlier would have me in stitches talking about Frank and the crazy world of Millwall.
I dont want to get bogged down in the seemly trivial reasons why the lads decided to leave(6 o clock lads, in holy catholic Ireland. Are yis mad?) but wish them all the best for the future which hopefully, like Eamonn says, will end up with Eoin(and Co.) returning to Setanta, possibly the only channel brave enough to give them a chance.

Great column Eamonn - I was certainly in shock when I went to tune in on Monday night. Listened in tonight out of habit. Very dry and straight laced, almost perfunctory but strangely enough I didn't miss the lads that much. They'll need to get back on the air quickly to avoid being forgotten

Excellent piece and a true homage to what off the ball meant to a lot of people! Sad to see the lads go and feel sorry for ger gilroy having to step in to do an impossible job.
