by Charles Pulling

Former Manchester United defender Bill Foulkes has died at the age of 81.

Foulkes, who made 688 appearances for the club, was one of the surviving members of the Munich air disaster which claimed 23 lives, including eight of the so-called ‘Bubsy Babes’.

The defender won four league titles, the F.A cup and the European Cup, and was present on an emotional night in Moscow where Manchester United won the UEFA Champions League 50 years on from the tragedy in Munich.
