Having already secured Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City could be making a move for the club’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 26-year-old scored 25 times for Dortmund in the Bunderliga last season and could cost somewhere in the region of £58 million.
Aubameyang is understood to have been learning English as he harbours ambitions to play in the Premier League at some point in his career.
City chiefs stole a march on the competition on Tuesday night as sources confirmed toSportsmail that discussions between the two clubs had taken place and they are ready to back their new manager Pep Guardiola further in the transfer market.
Last season saw City struggle up front, with Sergio Aguero again missing game time through injury, while big money signing from Swansea City, Wilfried Bony, ended up only playing a bit part role as teenager Kelechi Iheanacho impressed when given an opportunity in the first team.
Born in France, Aubameyang began his career in AC Milan’s academy before making his breakthrough with Saint Etienne in Ligue 1.
He has played 49 caps for Gabon, scoring 29 goals.
