Not content with already signing two Southampton players, Liverpool are keen to swoop for another one in the form of defender Dejan Lovren.
The Liverpool Echo reports that the 24-year-old, who played for Croatia at the World Cup in Brazil, has submitted a transfer request and believes that he can leave the club for £20 million under a gentleman’s agreement.
However, the Saints have rejected such an offer from Liverpool in the hope of getting a higher amount for Lovren.
Lovren wants to play Champions League football for Liverpool next season and Rodgers is a big admirer of his talents.
The Reds boss believes his leadership qualities would help to shore up a backline which leaked 50 Premier League goals last term
Lovren is just 13 months into the four-year deal he signed when he joined Southampton for £8.5million from Lyon last June.
