Images have been leaked online through various outlets purporting to show mock-ups of the proposed expansion of Liverpool F.C’s Anfield stadium.
Under the proposal the historic ground’s capacity will be expanded from its current 45,000 to approximately 60,000. The redevelopment is expected to cost somewhere in the region of £150 million and not be completed until 2018, yet it has become clear that the owners of ‘The Reds’ see the expansion as a cornerstone to their long term vision for the club.
The whole development, which involves the purchase and demolishing of rows of houses around the existing Anfield site, will also incorporate a new retail precinct and possibly a new hotel. Speaking to The Liverpool Echo the city’s Mayor Joe Anderson expressed his excitement at the news
The whole scheme is not just about the redevelopment of LFC’s ground, which I think is going to be spectacular and as good as any ground in the country when it’s completed, as there will also be a hotel offering training in hospitality and refurbished shops and new units built.
