Liverpool officially sign the “best player at 19 since Messi”

Liverpool have completed the €25million signing of Benfica’s Lazar Markovic from Portuguese side Benfica.

Praise is high for the 20-year-old, who played an integral part in Benfica’s treble last season as had major league and cup success under Jorge Jesus.

Markovic is the fourth signing for Liverpool this summer, joining Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can at Anfield. He’s likely to be followed by some more as speculation mounts over moves for Wilfried Bony, Ryan Bertrand and Dejan Lovren.

Avram Grant had high praise indeed for the Serbian midfielder.

“I can say that, apart from Ronaldo and Messi, Markovic is one of the best talents I’ve ever seen at 19 years of age”
