Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Ashley Cole this summer, according to The Mirror.
The Chelsea full back has been out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season and it looks like his contract will be allowed to expire in the summer, when the 33-year-old will become a free agent.
The England centurion isn’t keen on moving abroad and feels he can contribute to the Premier League for another season. Considering Liverpool’s recent issues at full back, where loan signing Aly Cissokho has played unspectacularly in the absence of Jose Enrique, the opportunity to spend another season at the top end of the table would be very enticing.
Cole has an offer on the table from MLS side New York Red Bulls but may ignore the popular ‘older player move’ to the American league in favour of a longer life in the Premier League.
There should be some interest in Cole, with Manchester United possibly loving Patrice Evra in the summer and Arsenal looking to bolster defensive areas, and also looking to add experience. Although his departure was controversial, a return to Arsene Wenger’s side wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility.
