Let’s talk about Cesc, baby

Ruining Football dropped a number of places in the fantasy football league after an stunning performance from Cesc Fabregas saw him bag a massive 44 points as captain in Gameweek 8.

Football - Arsenal v Middlesbrough Barclays Premier League

With the World Cup qualifiers out of the way it’s back to normal this weekend and there are some interesting match ups and fantasy football decisions to be made.

Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas appears to be back to his best following injury and bagged a ridiculous one goal, three assists and three bonus points in the Gunners last outing at home to Blackburn. This weekend they host Birmingham and there is a good chance for more of the same so I took a four point hit to get the Spaniard into my team as captain.

BOLTON WANDERERS V SUNDERLAND

In order to be able to afford him a sacrifice had to be made and Ashley Cole was the man to go. He exited stage left alongside Aaron Lennon, while Bolton’s Gary Cahill has come in to join the defence.

Fernando Torres is a massive loss this week as I was looking forward to a three-pronged forward line of himself, Didier Drogba and Darren Bent. With Fabregas, Gareth Barry, Mark Noble and Darren Fletcher in the middle of the park there is serious potential for big points.

The goalkeeping situation was always going to be a lose/lose situation with Joe Hart away to Arsenal and Jussi Jaaskelainen’s Bolton at Old Trafford to face Manchester United. I’ve gone for Hart at the toss of a coin in the hope he gets bonus points for saves.

There is potential for clean sheets at the back and it would be great if Ryan Shawcross could chip in a goal for Stoke at home to West Ham.

Last week’s total of 48 points was the first under 50 so it’s important to get back on track in Gameweek 9.

Drogba’s two assists against Liverpool somewhat justified the decision to give him the captain’s armband, a role that will be filled by Fabregas this week.

Bent’s excellent performance against Manchester United was pleasing to say the least and hopefully he can find the net against Liverpool, ecen though I also have Insua in my team.

The team currently sits in 25,842nd place in the world out of a total of 2,084,043 players.
