Kewell: David Batty/Steven Gerrard are the best players I’ve played with

Harry Kewell has done pretty well for himself out of football and played for two of England’s biggest clubs (historically anyway) in Liverpool and Leeds United.

He won the European Cup at Liverpool, has played at the World Cup with Australia, and was voted the country’s best ever player this year.

Now with Melbourne Heart in the A-League, Kewell is finally getting to grips with Twitter thanks to his missus Sheree Murphy, and gave an interesting response when asked who is the best player he has played with.

  1. Harry Kewell was a great world class player for once mighty leeds United. We need to move on from this Turkish business and attempt to build bridges. As a fan who regularly goes to home and away games his quality is sorely missed with the current rubbish team. Harry will always be welcome at Elland Road.

    1. Maybe but he is a professional footballer and he came through our academy system. What happened on that night was nothing but disgraceful but to tarnish the whole Turkish club with what those thugs did is not fair. I remember myself in the 1980s nearly getting beaten up and racially abused because of my colour by hooligans who were supposedly leeds united fans. They were thugs and did not represent the club did they.

      1. Hi Shabaz, I cannot agree as Galatasary treat the whole issue with contempt to the point of not acknowledging the situation on the night. Believe me I am close to the family of one of the dead men and the people involved in Galatasary ignored the whole issue. Kewell could have gone anywhere in the world other than there.

He also cost Leeds millions by holding them to ransom when he went to Liverpool. Since he came through our academy as you rightly say you would have thought he would have shown more respect to the club that put him on the road to millionaire status.

While I sympathise with the situation you found yourself in which is not acceptable, on this occasion the two are not linked as we are talking about Kewell and his greed and disrespect.

        1. Hi Gary, I accept the point you are making ultimately Harry only went to turkey because of the money but he was a world class player who was part of our success before our demise, all the best Shabaz

          1. Hi Shabaz, I had a season ticket at that time and would agree he was a fabulous player. Unfortunately when he sits back he can count his money and reflect on what he could have become with all that talent. A career wasted from a football potential point of view.

Ask any Liverpool fan, I believe they hold him in even lower regard than Leeds fans if that is possible.

            Take care mate.
