The deployment of talented young teenager in deep-lying role is nothing new. Cesc was a holding midfielder during his Barca youth day and Wenger emulated that by using Wilshere as one of double pivot . The reason is 1) They can see the whole picture of play thus, improving decision-making 2) seeing more of the ball. There is a positive end result to this, Cesc is now an established attacking midfielder.

You can bet Josh will eventually start in his natural position soon. Oriol Romeu will make that regista position his own. If his development goes well, expect Lucas Piazon to complete the trio. Chelsea might have to change the system (slight tweak / inverting midfield trio) in 3-5 years time.

Great times ahead and hopefully Josh and Jack won't turn out to be like Gerrard and Lampard on international stage.

Very good article, and great knowledge. Unfortunately it seems that AVB see's him as a regista. He has played every friendly (it seems) in a very deep position. AVB has actually pushed Mikel forward, which i also think is his best position, but it is to the detriment of Josh. I just hope he doesnt miss out, playing only a handful of games this season and then get sold for 5 million to someone in a couple of years - because he has world class potential. However i still dotn think he is ready to be a first team regular, he still lacks experience and maturity, shown when he gets caught on the ball a little too often.
