Irish-focused ’30 for 30′ Documentary Premieres Tonight

ESPN’s flagship documentary house ’30 for 30′ has been garnering a lot of well deserved praise for its current ‘Soccer Stories’ series which is running in the lead-up to this summer’s World Cup. A standout so far was the the emotionally charged and incredibly powerful documentary ‘Hillsborough’ which detailed the events of the day and the subsequent cover-up by authorities.

Tonight’s broadcast, the 4th in the series, should prove to be equally as emotional. Directed by famed documentary maker Alex Gibney and produced by Irishman Trevor Birney ‘Ceasefire Massacre’  tells the story of the Republic of Ireland’s historic win over Italy in the 1994 World Cup and the tragedy that unfolded simultaneously in what became known as the ‘Loughinisland Massacre’ – one of the worst events of the conflict in Northern Ireland.

As with all ESPN’s documentary there is no definitive news as to when this series will be officially broadcast outside of the USA. In the meantime here are the two teaser trailers released by ESPN ahead of tonight’s broadcast.
