Football-loving model Callan Price picks her top five Irish players

We caught up with Canadian model and good friend of the site Callan Price to tell us her top five Irish players and her prediction ahead of tonight’s big World Cup qualifier against Sweden.

Originally from Vancouver in Canada, Callan has relocated to Dublin and it is here where she hopes to embark on a career in sporting presenting, in conjunction with her modelling work. She has taken the Irish modelling sphere by storm, where she has spent time with the reputable Assets modelling agency.

She told the Sunday World: “I would love to be a sports presenter, I am mad about sport. I am really giddy, so I don’t know how well I would do in front of the camera. I don’t know whether that energy would translate well when it comes to being a serious broadcaster.”

As well as hoping to pursue a job in the sports world, Callan has played football back home in Canada for most of her life, but the reaction differs slightly from Irish people

In Canada every girl plays soccer, but in Ireland everyone asks if I am a lesbian.

If Callan has any hope of pursuing a career in football presenting in Ireland, she needs to know her stuff when facing the Eamon Dunphy’s and Richie Sadlier’s on the other side of the desk. We put her Irish knowledge to the test asking for her top five Irish players at the moment, and got her views on tonight’s game against Sweden.

#1 Robbie Keane: “He’s scored so many goals for Ireland, how could you not like him? I also appreciate his move to LA Galaxy. As a Canadian, I like to see big name players make it into the MLS and help promote North American soccer.”

#2 James McCarthy: “From an Irish point of view, it’s great to see McCarthy back in the Premier League. Roberto Martinez obviously has a great deal of belief in the young Glaswegian to pay £13 million for him on transfer deadline day.”

#3 Shane Long: “I was recently quoted in a newspaper saying that Shane Long’s eyes were dreamy. While you can’t deny that he’s an attractive boy, I believe him to be a great striker and will surely lead the line for Ireland for years to come.”

#4 Seamus Coleman: “Coleman is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League. He’s solid defensively, he offers a lot going forward. What impresses me most about Coleman is the fact that he is fearless and I can see him as a future captain of Ireland.”

#5 Robbie Brady: “Robbie took a chance leaving United and making his move to Hull permanent earlier this year. This shows he has confidence in his ability by leaving such a big club for regular first team football and I think he’s been the standout performer for Hull so far this season.”

Callan is confident of a good result tonight, with the home support and Keane’s recent goalscoring form both key factors.

After the 0-0 draw against Sweden in March this year, Friday’s match will be tough to call. With the fantastic Irish home support and Robbie Keane’s good form at Galaxy, I think Ireland will just do enough to get the three points.

With the help of photographer Aaron Hurley, Callan provided some fantastic shots of herself in some football gear, exclusively for BPF. Who doesn’t like a beautiful blonde in an Irish shirt? No one, that’s who.
