French star Franck Ribery is set to miss his country’s World Cup playoff tie with Ireland next month due to a tendon problem in his knee suffered while playing for Bayern Munich on October 3.
Bayern coach Louis Van Gaal said he was unsure as to the extent of the damage but believes that the year old midfielder faces an extended spell on the sidelines.
“I cannot confirm how long he will be out for,” said Van Gaal.
“We have decided to treat him and that could take a month, but I do not want to be precise.”
Alain Boghossian, the French assistant manager, has all but accepted that they will have to do without Ribery for the games on November 14 and 18.
“For me, Franck is practically out of the play-off,” he said.
